A note in my pocket

I found a note I wrote to myself about a year and a half ago. Mapi had said something to me in the car and I scribbled it down and tucked it away in a jacket I only recently wore again the other day.

From when Mapi was about 3.5 years old. We were talking about her namesake, Abuela Marlist, who died before Mapi was born. Mapi says:

"Whoever dies, gets to leave. Whoever lives, gets to stay.If I say whoever dies gets to stay here, we'll have a bunch of people who died, in our house."

Later that day, we went to Abuela Pam's house. Mapi told her:

"You are my favorite abuela."
"How many do you have?" asked my mom.
"Two" replied Mapi.
"Who is the other one?"
Said Mapi: "she's dead, unfortunately. I invited her to my house for a party. She died."

And that, my friends, is another glimpse into my daughter's head as she pieces together this here universe.
